Born Gerald Calvin Douglas on May 28, 1958 in Ohio, Jerry Douglas is famous in the world of country, bluegrass, and instrumentals as a highly skilled Dobro guitar player. Affectionately nicknamed “Fluxâ€, Jerry Douglas is nigh-incomparable when it comes to his speed and propensity with his musical instrument of choice.
Jerry Douglas has been a part of well over 1,600 albums ranging in different music styles. He has accomplished all of that as well as a total of eleven solo albums. Douglas can be heard in albums of artists like Ray Charles, Bela Fleck, Phish, Dolly Parton, Paul Simon, Ricky Skaggs, John Fogerty, Tony Rice, Elvis Costello, and James Taylor.
Douglas is also an esteemed producer, having worked on albums by Maura O’Connell, Jesse Winchester, and the Del McCoury Band.
Jerry Douglas’ main instrument is called a Beard Resonator Guitar. He is the recipient of twelve Grammy Awards all throughout his career. He has also been awarded with the Country Music Associaton’s award for “Musician of the Year†thrice. He was given the award in 2002, 2005, and 2007.
