The multi-Grammy award winning Dixie Chicks are an alternative country band that have earned the distinction of being the highest-selling female group in the world, amassing over 36 million albums sold. Well-known for their varied knowledge on many different instruments, beautiful ballads, and outspoken personalities, the Dixie Chicks are one of the very few country music acts that have successfully crossed over to different genres many times.
Founded by sisters Emily and Martie Erwin and sisters Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy, the Dixie Chicks started making music way back in 1989. Robin Lynn Macy left later on in 1992 to pursue a more bluegrass approach to music, an influential musical style inherent to all members. This left Laura Lynch to be the only person to handle the vocal duties until she was replaced in 1995 by Natalie Maines.
The Dixie Chicks have come out with a number of albums throughout their years in the business, with all of them achieving critical and financial success.
